James DeRamus was born on June 26, 1946, in Prattville, Alabama to the late Paul DeRamus and Jessie Brown DeRamus, from that union four children were born, James DeRamus, Willie
DeRamus, John L. DeRamus and Lula DeRamus Motley.
James received his formal education at the Autaga County Training School, in Autaugaville, AL where he was a natural athlete excelling in track and baseball. At an early age James joined the Old Kingston Missionary Baptist Church, where he attended until he relocated to New York.
James was previously married to Lily DeRamus, to this union three daughters, Jennifer DeRamus, Yolanda Archbold and Cynthia DeRamus Ricks; one son, Steve Horrington.
James, who was affectionately known as "Buddy" or "Jimmy" to his friends and family, retired after 30 years of dedicated service to the New York Waste Management Company. Buddy spent his retirement years doing what he loved most: gardening his vegetables and detailing automobiles.
Buddy took pride in his work, and it was shown by the repeat clients he had over the years.
James was preceded in death by his daughter, Cynthia DeRamus Ricks, his sister, Sarah Cooper, and his brother Ronnie Daniels.
James leaves to cherish his precious memories; a loving and caring wife, Sandra Minenger DeRamus, two daughters, Jennifer DeRamus and Yolanda Archbold; two sons Steve Horrington and Donald Minenger; his three sisters, Lula DeRamus-Motley (James), Leslie
DeRamus White and Ralph DeRamus, one sister-in-law; Francis Johnson, two brothers in-law; Daniel Cribbs (Edith), Kevin Cribbs, two aunts, Lee Ada Jones, Estelle Kelly, ten grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and two devoted friends Kenny Rosenblatt and Garland Page.
