Lillie Gordon Obituary

In Prattville, Alabama on April 11, 1927 Sister Lillie R. Gordon was born to the late Mose and Rosa Watts.  She was the 7th of 12 children.  She later moved to the Bronx, New York in 1946 where she met & married Lee Herbert Gordon. They were the proud parents of two children; Robert (Bobby) and Susan. She worked for two New York City Hospitals for over 26 years before retiring and moving back to Prattville to care for her mother until she died.

Lillie was a faithful member of Thessalonian Baptist Church in the Bronx where she served for many years in the Sanctuary Choir. After moving back to Prattville, she became a member of First Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as a member of the Senior Choir, President of the Senior Missionaries, and as a Sunday School teacher.

Some of Lillie’s favorite past times were watching westerns and game shows on television, doing puzzle books, shopping and reading the bible.  She was very diligent about studying her Sunday School lesson before teaching the next day.  She would get up very early on Sundays, getting ready with Gospel music playing in the background.  When she was ready to go if you planned on riding with her you had better be in the car or you were surely going to be left behind!  She was a classy lady with a memorable and infectious laugh and was rarely seen out in public without lipstick!

She leaves to cherish her memory; her daughter Susan LeMay and husband Dexter of Florida, Grandchildren Susaye (Joseph) Fanella, in Maryland, Shayna (Josh)Hudson and Joshua LeMay in Florida, Kesha Gordon Brown in Maryland, a host of nieces, nephews, grandnieces and nephews, more grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, First Missionary Baptist Church family and friends.
