Verda Lee (Wood) Cain

Mrs. Verda  Lee Wood Cain, was born on December 14, 1944, to her deceased parents Willie Lee

Wood, Sr. and Elmira Davis Wood. She was the oldest of seven children. She was a devoted Christian, a  loving wife,  mother,  sister  and friend.  She  departed  peacefully  at  her  home  in Prattville, AL on Thursday, November 14, 2019.

Verda, the Matriarch, gave her life to God at an early age.  She was a faithful member of First  Missionary Baptist Church.  She was a member of the S. W. Mass Gospel Choir, Senior Choir, the Deaconess Board and Usher Board.  Verda  graduated from North Highland High School.  She participated in Autauga County Voting Rights and Civil Rights Movement at a young age, where she marched beside her father, Willie Lee Wood, Sr.  Her employment included: Times Magazine in Chicago, IL and Prattville Apparel for many years.  She joined and retired from Walmart in Prattville after twenty-seven years of employment .  She was active in the Autauga County and North Highland community such as: playing on the community softball league as catcher and in a bowling league.  She was a proud and dedicated Co-Founder/Vice President/Secretary of the Sharing & Caring Society in Prattville, AL, organized in 1983-Motto:  It is better to give than to receive."

Verda  was the cherished and loving wife of Laney Cain, Sr. After their marriage, they moved to  Chicago, IL. Years later they settled their family in Prattville, AL. Their blessed union lasted for 55 years.  Her beautiful  life will  be cherished by her three  loving children: Angela (Mark)  Love (Jacksonville, FL); Pamela Cain (Prattville, AL) and Laney Cain, Jr. (Prattville, AL). Grandchildren: Aaleyah Cain, Angelica Love, Breyana Cain and Landon Cain. Siblings: Delois (John) Sager (Prattville, AL); Janette Jordan (Montgpmery, AL);  Willie Lee Wood, Jr (Prattville, AL);  Marietta Davis (Montgomery, AL); Callie  Wood (Prattville, AL) and adopted sister, Sondra R. Davenport (Austell, GA);  Aunt Hattie Adair (Montgomery, AL);  Nieces and nephews: Valerie, Dionne, Jerome, Tesha, Veronica, Anthony, April, Michelle, Jamarcus; a host of great-nieces and nephews; and a host of life long cherished family, friends and neighbors."

Verda  was preceded in death by her family members: father Mr. Willie Lee Wood, Sr., mother Mrs.  Elmira Wood, sister Josette Marvin and niece baby Harriet Shonta Marshall.
