William Harris Obituary

Lance Corporal  William Charles Harris  United States Marines Veteran age 55 a resident of Prattville, Alabama passed away Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at Jackson Hospital Montgomery, Alabama.  Funeral service will be held Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 2pm from New Mount Zion A.M.E. Church, 745 County Road 21 North Prattville, Alabama with Rev. George M. Cyrus, Pastor officiating.  Burial to follow at Locust Bluff United Methodist Church Cemetery, 2110 Alternate County Road 21 North Prattville, Alabama with Funeral Honors and Patriot Guard Riders.

William Charles Harris was born December 19, 1963 to Milton Wesley & Arizona Goodson Harris in Chattanooga, TN  being the third child of four children.  Charles affectionately known as "Chuck" passed away at Jackson Hospital on January 15, 2019 in Montgomery, AL.  He was preceded in death by his father Milton, his brother Muryce, his nephew Joshua and his grandparents both paternal & Maternal.

As a young boy, he attended Autaugaville Elementary School and moved on to attend Autaugaville High School in Autaugaville, AL.  Throughtout his high school years, he played saxophone in the marching band and bass guitar in the stage band.  He became very skillful in martial arts.  He was a running back and defensive back on the high school football team.  He was a member of the Alabama National Guard while attending high school, which later granted him the opportunity to join the United States Marine Corps which he left for immediately following his graduation ceremony.

Early in life Charles was introduced to our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ by attending Rose of Sharon Baptist Church in Chattanooga, TN, then he moved to Alabama and became a member of New Mt Zion  A.M.E. Churchin Prattville, AL.  He was a member of the Masonic Lodge.

Charles earned the rank Lance Corporal while serving in the United States Marine Corps.  He was a top expert marksman in his class and the black guard to protect the captain on the USS Nassau ship.  He worked as a helicopter mechanic and traveled all over the world to places such as Europe, Korea, Jerusalem, Beirut, Australia, Greenland to name a few and several cites in the United States of America.  Charles worked as a welder and a scuba diver.  Some of Charles employers included Glovis, Montgomery Aviation, Autauga Co. Sheriff Dept. and most recent until his health declined.  He worked for Shoreline Transsportation of Alabama.  Some of his hobbies included: cooking, hunting, fishing, playing cards and enjoying music.

Charles was once married to Gloria and he helped care for his step son Jamal.  He was a family man.  He was a loving son, brother and uncle Charles brought love & laughter to all he came around.  He loved people and people loved him.

Charles leaves to cherish his memories his mother Arizona Cheeks (Prattville, AL) a sister Arlesia Motley (Aron) Montgomery, AL, a brother Ernest Harris Sr. (Daphne) Prattville, AL, an uncle Earnest Goodson (Omeda ) Prattville, AL, two nieces Benetta Walton (Atlanta, GA), Ann Frances Harris (Louisville, KY); six nephews: Kenneth Harris (Raven) Columbus, GA, Myron Harris (Patrina) Buford, GA, Muryce Harris Jr (Ft Campbell, KY), Gilbert Harris (Amanda) Sumter, SC, Ernest Harris Jr (Louisville, KY), Jordan Bryant (Prattville, AL); nine great nieces and great nephews, partner in crime Jonathan Davis, Norman DeRamus, Jimmy Wigfall, Tommy and a very special friend BOP, a host of cousins, family & friends.
