Mr. Willie Frank Bates a resident of Prattville, Alabama pass away Saturday, May 13, 2017.  Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, May 19, 2017 at 10am from Ward Chapel AME Church Prattville, Alabama with Rev. Anges Lover Pastor, and officiating.  Burial to follow at the Alabama National Cemetery Montevallo, Alabama with Full Military Honors.
Mr. Bates will lie in repose 1 hour prior to the funeral services.
Visitation: Thursday, May 18, 2017 from 2-8pm

Willie F. Bates, Sr. was born to the late Mr. Curtis Bates and the late Mrs. Eva Washington Bates. He accepted Christ at an early age and joined Ward Chapel A.M.E. Church. He grew up to be a great person in life. He attended and graduated North Highland High School, 1962. He joined the United States Army and made it his career, serving for 40 years. He loved his "Army Family", the 369th Sergeant Association and the 1569th Transportation Unit. He was an entrepreneur, a builder, a contractor, a landlord, a painter, a furniture refinisher, a handyman and a cook. He loved to entertain. He built the first in-ground swimming pool in the City of Prattville for the Black Community to enjoy. He also had the first teenagers club of Prattville.

Willie Frank loved his family. He was a very proud person and a great grandfather. He was a kind and gentle man that never said no to anyone.

He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Curtis and Eva Bates; six brothers: Curtis, Bates, Jr., Eugene Bates, Booker T. Bates, Leonard Bates, Donald Bates and Claude Bates; two sisters, Dorothy Bates Morlow and Bertha Bates Hart.

Willie Frank will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 55 years, Mrs. Bessie Williams Bates; five sons: Willie Frank (Nekeia) Bates, Jr., S. Craig Bates, Curtis (Claudette) Bates, Christopher (Shakita) Bates, all of Prattville, AL; Timothy (Katrina) Bates, Creedmoor, NC.; one brother: Herman (Alberta) Bates, Prattville, AL.; a very faithful and devoted nephew: Anthony (Daisy) Bates, Prattville, AL.; eighteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He also leaves to cherish his memories two brother-in-laws: Alfred (Ann) Williams, Jr. Montgomery, AL.; Herman L. Wiliams, Jamaica, NY.; nine sister-in-laws: Waldean (Eugene) Bates, Detroit, MI.; Betty (Booker T.) Bates; Charleston, SC.; Yvonne (Donald) Bates, Bronx, NY.; Leslie (Leonard) Bates, Long Island, NY.; Debra (Claude) Bates, Montgomery, AL.; Linda (Charles) Williams, Detroit, MI.; Percie Marvin, Fannie (Curtis) Williams, all of Prattville, AL.; Parthenia (Larry) Breantley, Montgomery, AL.; a hosts of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and three very faithful friends, Jake Willis, Sidney McNeil and Allen Simmons.
