She was a champion for the cause of the Kingdom of God, the East Chapel Methodist Church, and the development of goals and morals. Born in Wetumpka, Alabama, she was the second youngest daughter of the late Oscar and Bertha J. Thomas; sister to eighteen brothers and sisters of whom, seven sisters and four brothers preceded her in death.
Helen accepted Christ at the age of 13, at Liberty Hill BaptistChurch, Wetumpka, Alabama. After relocating to Millbrook, in 1954, she continued to trust God for His guidance and strength and united with East Chapel Church. She was a dedicated member serving as Sunday School Teacher, Secretary, and Superintendent; Choir President; Class Leader; Trustee; Program Chairperson; Missionary President/Teacher; and an Ordained Stewardess.
Helen was educated at Wetumpka Institute Elementary School, Elmore County Training School, and Alabama State Teachers College where she obtained both B. S. and a M.S. in Education.
For thirty-Five and a half years, she was a Certified Teacher to three generations in Lagrange, Wetumpka, Millbrook, and Montgomery. She was a member of National Education Association (Retired) and Alabama Education Association (Retired). She enjoyed her flowers, ceramics, caring for her family, and serving as much as she was able.
