James Steele Jr. ''Pap" was born on February 22, 1953, to the late James Steele Sr. and Eddie Lou Steele in Autauga County.
James committed his life to Christ at an early age and was baptized at First Baptist Missionary Church of Autaugaville where he served as Deacon, Vice President of the Pastor's Aid Board and Treasurer of Sunday School. For several years James worked at Citizens Bank of Prattville. He also worked at Crystal Lake Manufacturing for over 30 years.
James was a very loving, kind, humble and hardworking man. He had an enormous heart filled with love for God and his family.
James was joined in Holy Matrimony to Shirley Ann Jackson in 1973 and from this union three children were born.
He gained his wings on June 21, 2022. He is preceded in death by his parents James and Eddie Lou Steele, brothers Carter Steele and Albert Lewis Steele, sisters Lillie Mae Steele and Annie Ruth Peoples and sister-in law Emma Mae Jackson.
He leaves to cherish his memory a loving and devoted wife of 49 years, Shirley Steele, one daughter, Jennifer (Jessie) Smith of Prattville, AL; two sons, James M. Steele of Montgomery, AL and Jamarcus Steele of Prattville, AL. Five grandchildren, Ja'Kecia Howard, Branden Bogan, Ja'Niya Howard, Dre'Vion Steele and Ja'Mariyah Steele. Seven sisters, Flora (Harold) Motley and Ruth Deramus of Prattville, AL; Matilda (Lee) Howard, Virginia (Terry) Mosely, Lela (Freddie) Peoples, Debra (Antonio) Reeves and Tanisha (Dedrick) Johnson all of Autaugaville, AL. Five aunts, Shirley (Lewis) Sullen of Montgomery, AL; Carrie Williamson of Baltimore, MD; Emma (Jack) Harris and Mary Steele of Wooster, OH and Barbara Steele of Springfield, IL. Seven sisters-in-law, Dorothy (Dan) Showers, Gertrude (Jimmie) Powell, Rogenia Barnette, Brenda (Ronald) Sizemore, Evelyn (Juan) Wyley and Yvonne Pratt all of Cleveland, OH and Willie Mae Steele of Autaugaville, AL. Seven brothers-in-law, David (Laura) Jackson, Nathaniel (Dorothy) Jackson, Leon (Leola) Jackson, Norman (Michelle) Jackson and Emmanuel Jackson all of Cleveland, OH; Richard (Michelle) Jackson of Savannah, GA and William Jackson of Autaugaville, AL. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
