Obituary

Josephine Golson passed away peacefully at Baptist South Medical Center on July 1, 2020 in Montgomery, Alabama at the age of 73.

Josephine was born to the union of Katie Bell Johnson and Otis Johnson, Sr. on November 4, 1946.  She accepted Christ at an early age and remained faithful throughtout her life.  After graduating from high school, she moved to Chicago, Illinois.  She met and married James Golson, Sr., her sweetheart, on October 15, 1973.  She began working for Roseland Community Hospital as a cook and spent many years there.  Josephine dearly wanted a child, and God blessed her and she gave birth to a son!  She welcomed this son, James Jr. into her life, and he became the Apple of her eye.  She loved him Unconditionally and was a very devoted mother.  James Jr. remembers her as kind, patient, and hard-working mother  who encouraged him to pursue his goals.

Josephine continued her love for cooking at Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail from 1998 until she passed away.  She was accomplished at cooking and often showcased her skills in her church home, Locust Bluff Methodist Church, where she was an active member !  She served as Communion Steward, served on the usher board, volunteered for fundraising, and sang with the LBUMC Choir.  She was a generous individual who loved her family and who was passionate about God and His Word.  Josephine was preceded in death by: her husband of 46 years, James Golson, Sr., her mother and father, Katie and Otis Johnson, Sr. siblings; Barbara Johnson, William Johnson, Otis Johnson, Jr., and Patricia Johnson.  Josephine leaves to cherish her precious memories: her son, James Golson, Jr. (Quida); her grandchildren, Andrew Golson and Ryan Singleton-Golson; her siblings: Katie Johnson, Johnie Johnson, Sara Johnson, and Thomas Johnson; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
