Leon Vidmon Houser was born July 27, 1933 in Prattville, Alabama to Enoch & Celeste Houser who preceded him in death. Leon accepted Christ at an early age and joined Mount Sinai Baptist church where he served as an Usher.
Leon attended Mount Sinai Junior High and graduated from Autauga County Training School. He joined the Army in 1953 where he earned Good Conduct & National Defense Service Medals. After being honorably discharged from the Army in 1955, Leon married Gladys Mae Gibbons and to this union four children were born. He later had two children with Dorothy "Mickey" Metcalfe. He also had two step children after remarrying in 1984 to Charlene Gray. Leon attended Alabama State University where he received a Bachelor 's Degree and also attended Roosevelt University in Chicago. He was a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity. He moved to Chicago in 1959 where he held jobs with the Chicago Board of Education and the US Post Office.
Leon being determined to make a better life for himself and his family went into his own business operating a Standard Service Station and Auto Repair Shop. He loved working on cars and was a respected, successful mechanic. Leon went on to open three other repair shops with his best buddy and cousin Daniel Webster Pugh who preceded him in death. He worked as a mechanic serving the community until he retired.
Leon was preceded in death by his brother Enoch Dozier Houser. On April 19, 2020, God saw he was tired and called him home. Leon leaves to cherish his memory, his siblings, Zelma Byrd, Zenobia Faye Marshall and Cleveland Douglas (Joyce) Houser, six children, Landrium (Cheryl) Houser, Gerald Houser, Derrick Houser, La'Sondra Houser, Elmore Dwayne (Aline) Metcalfe, Danielle (Angelo) Wilson, two step-children, Freddie Gray and Tiffany Gray, Eleven grandchildren, Takeyia, LaTeona, Britney, Jerall, Adner Jr., Caitlin, Indygo, Jatwan, Tiawanna, D'Angelo and Maximus, four great-grandchildren, Roman, Sonaia, Summer and Marcus, Jr. A host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
