On December 26, 1957, Ms. Mildred Christean Nunn Holmes was born to the late Elijah (Coonana) Nunn and Climontine Broadnax Nunn in Independence, AL.
Although, Elijah (Coonana) Nunn proceeded her in death, he affectionately referred to her as "Chris". She could often be found sharpening her shade tree mechanic skills underneath a motor vehicle.
Mildred attended church with her mom and sister regularly. She joined the Bethesda Missionary Baptist Church family in her youth. There she began her lifelong journey with the Lord. You could often find her enjoying her beautiful flowers and reading the Word of God.
Mildred attended Autaugaville High School with the loving, and supportive class of 1976. There she played clarinet in the band, and also cheered on the varsity cheerleading squad. After high school she began a career as a pharmacy technician in Detroit, Michigan in the late 70's. Upon returning home to Alabama, she entered Wallace Community College in Selma, Alabama. She received an Associate Degree in Business Administration and began a career with the YMCA. Her drive and tenacity, led to her promotion as the first female and African American Director of the YMCA in Selma, Alabama.
She went on to attend Wallace's cosmetology program to support co ownership of Velberta Beauty on Broad Street in Selma, AL. Mildred kept a busy chair of those interested in the 80's Jerri Curl perm for over a decade. She worked remotely as a lead in tele marketing support until her health took precedence approximately one year ago. She was well known for her dependability and courtesy with Direct TV.
She leaves to cherish a loving and devoted mother, Climontine B. Nunn (Autaugaville, AL). Her heart and soul, an only child Andre' Chestnut (Montgomery, AL). One granddaughter, Kennedy Gibson. Two grandsons De'Andre' Chestnut (Selma, AL) and Dicarrrio Balwin (Montgomery, AL); One loving and devoted sister, Costella (Henry) Brown (Montgomery, AL.). One niece, Shondre Clemons (Kennesaw, GA). One great nephew Jeremiah Clemons, and two great nieces, Kyla and Ella Clemons (Kennesaw, GA). 0ne very special and supportive Aunt Bessie (William) Gibbons (Prattville, AL).
Mildred also leaves a host of extended relatives, friends, classmates, and family in Christ who mourn her loss.
