Nora Hills Douglas, affectionately known as Polly, was born on April 22, 1943 to the late Martin and Myrtis Hills in Magnolia, Mississippi.
Nora was baptized at an early age at Union Missionary Baptist Church by Rev. Willie McGee in Magnolia, Mississippi. Upon moving to New Orleans in 1959, she joined Second Bethlehem Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Warner Fulton where she sung in the choir. She later united with Franklin Avenue Baptist Church under Rev. Fred Luter, Jr. She relocated to Baton Rouge, Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina where she continued to fellowship at Franklin Avenue (Baton Rouge location) and Greater King David Baptist Church.
Nora attended Pike County schools in Fernwood and Magnolia, Mississippi. In Louisiana, she attended James Derham Jr. High and Booker T. Washington High School in Orleans Parish.
She was united in Holy Matrimony to Irvin Otis Douglas who preceded her in death. She was employed with Baptist Hospital as a Dietary Aide until her retirement.
Nora transitioned peacefully at home on March 14, 2023, in Prattville, Alabama.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Stephen Douglas; sister, Annie Fernell; and brothers Robert Earl Shaw and Jerry Hills.
Nora leaves to cherish her memory, one son, Bruce Douglas (Adrian) of Prattville, AL; two granddaughters, Angelica Douglas of Gretna, Louisiana and Braelyn Douglas of Prattville, AL; two great-grandchildren, Londyn Journee and Jace Williams of Gretna, Louisiana; eight sisters, Celia Lewis (Ruben, Sr.) of New Orleans, Louisiana, Lelia Stokes (James) of Columbus, GA, Gloria Jenkin (Freddy) of Pontiac, Michigan, Lela Jackson (Ray), Delores Shaw, Felisha Young (Carlos) all of Magnolia, Mississippi; Mary Shaw, and Anglia Coleman both of McComb, Mississippi; four brothers, Donald Miller (Willie Mae) of Kenner, Louisiana, Charles Shaw (Evelyn) of Pontiac, Michigan, Larry Brown of Magnolia, Mississippi, and Martin Shaw (Elouise) of McComb, Mississippi; one sister-in-law, Doreen Hills of New Orleans, Louisiana; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
