Preston Ernest Motley was born on January 25, 1955 in Prattville, Alabama to the late Algia Motley Sr. and Gladys Juanita Goodson Motley. He departed this life on Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at Prattville Baptist Hospital in Prattville, AL. Preston had the call of God upon his life at an early age. Thereafter, he became a deacon and Sunday school teacher. Later, he was ordained as a minister at New Lily Green Baptist Church in Deatsville, AL (Rev. Leonard James, Pastor). Afterwards, he resided under the leadership of Pastor John E. Clay of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, Prattville, AL.
Preston decided to step out on faith to start his own church (The Lily Christian Church, Prattville, AL) where he was Pastor for over fourteen years until the Lord called him home.
Preston graduated from Autaugaville School in 1972. He joined the United States Army in January 1975, where he served nearly six years until he was honorably discharged.
He had a passion for singing and was also known as "Mr. Fix It". He earned a degree in Radio and Television from Trenholm State Technical College in August 1984. Immediately after graduating, he began door-to-door TV repair for over twenty years. He later opened his own TV Repair Business (Presto) in Prattville, AL, where he worked over seven years until his health failed.
Preston's love for mathematics landed him a job with G. E. Plastics (SABIC) in Burkville, AL. He was employed there twenty-five years before his retirement in December 2017.
Preston was preceded in death by his parents, Algia Motley Sr. and Gladys J. Motley, Patrick E. Motley (son), Henry O. Goodson (brother), Margia Motley Davis and Ethel Louise Hardy (sisters).
He leaves to cherish his precious memories, a devoted wife of forty-seven years, Bettye Lucas Motley; three children, Preston E. (Vanessa) Motley Jr., Patricia A. Motley Jordan, and Phillip E. Motley, all of Prattville, AL.
Grandchildren: Raven S. Motley, Patrice Motley, Raevyn Woulard, Preston James Motley (Tre), Patrick J. Motley, Christian E. Jordan, Destini Jordan, Derrick S. Jordan, Gabriel Jordan, Natalia Jordan, Alicia Motley, Kadyn Motley, Jacob Motley and Kingsley Motley.
Brothers: Algia (Nancy) Motley Jr., Wake Forest, NC, Clemon (Diana) Motley, Prattville, AL, and Jeffrey (Ava) Motley, Marietta, GA.
Sisters: Debrah Goodson, Helen Pettus-Tyus and Alma (Nathaniel) Brown, all of Prattville, AL.
Uncle: Harvey Lee (Prevella) Motley; Goddaughter, Misty Oates, both of Prattville, AL.
Brothers-in-Law: Raymond Lucas, Milton (Cynthia) Lucas, Jim (Gwen) Lucas Jr. and Charlie Lucas Sr.
Sisters-in-Law: Polly Sue O'Neal, Mary (Lorenzo) Deramus, Josephine Lucas, Dorothy Robinson, Patricia Powell, Luvorn Lucas, Juanita Deramus and Beatrice Lucas; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and caring friends.
