Mrs. Ruby Nell Lewis, also known as "Grandma," "Granny," and "Dear Dear," was born June 24, 1927 to Malcolm Gaines and Rosie Daniels Gaines.
Due to the passing of her birth mother, Ruby was adopted at 2 weeks old by her cousins, Tom Thompson and Annie Thompson.
Ruby professed her life to Jesus Christ at an early age. Ruby went on to graduate from Elmore County and shortly after that she married Johnson Lewis, Sr. and with this union were born seven children.
Gardening and flowers were her passion.
She departed this life peacefully in her sleep on January 12, 2021 at Tallassee Health and Rehab in Tallassee, Alabama.
Ruby is proceeded in death by her parents Malcolm Gaines, Rosie Daniels Gaines, Tom Thompson and Annie Thompson, brothers John Langford, and Willie Langford, sister Ella Washington, children Dorothy Ann Lewis, Alvin Earl Lewis, Billy Wayne Lewis, Sr., Emma Lois Lewis Graves, and James Earl Lewis, grandson Marty Floyd Ferrell, Jr.
She leaves to cherish her memory and legacy to two children: Johnson (Kathy) Lewis, and Olivia (Marty) Ferrell; two daughters-in-laws: Annie Lee Lewis and Dorothy Jean Lewis; thirteen grandchildren: Dionne (Rickey) Reeves, Catenia Lewis, Sheila Lewis, Morris Graves Jr., Laraun Bester, Billy (Jana) Lewis, Jr., Stephanie Lewis, Desirae Lewis, Latasha Lewis, Deja Whitney-Lewis, Damian Lewis, Jonathan Lewis and Tylarian Ferrell; twelve great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren plus one due in June 2021; a classmate and special friend Ms. Jackie Lacey, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
