Vergie Life
Vergie Lorraine Foster Johnson was born in Robinette West Virginia to William and Lorene Foster. Shegrew up in West Virginia in a loving household with her siblings. After graduating the local high school, she received an academic scholar-ship from the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority to attend West Virginia State, one of the original African America land grant colleges. While attending "STATE" as it was sometimes called, she excelled in academics and enjoyed playing the trombone for the marching band, and swimming for the synchronized swim team. On June 6, 1978, Vergie graduated from Queens College, New York with a Bachelors of Arts Degree. On May 4, 1981, she graduated from Adelphi University, New York with a Master of Arts Degree. On May 21, 2012, she graduated from Troy University in Alabama with a Masters Degree.
Vergie married Willie Jerome Miles ll, deceased, and had 4 children, Angela, Willie, Anthony and Carl. Her growing family moved to New York., after the second child was born. There she became the Director of the Head Start Nursery School at Ebenezer Baptist Church, Queen, New York. On October 23, 1987, Vergie married Commissioner Carl Johnson, moved to Prattville, Alabama and became the Director of the non-profit Assistant Living Facility "The Carlorene House, she and her husband Carl founded in 1992. There she worked tirelessly, spiritually embracing those who life has not been kind. It was truly her passion. Carl and Vergie became active members in Bethesda Missionary Baptist Church, Carl as a Deacon and Vergie as a Sunday School teacher, her second passion.
Vergie died peacefully at home on the morning of May 8, 2019. She is survived by her husband Commissioner Carl Johnson: her siblings Wilma Jean, Frances, Roberta and and Frances, Robert Earl; her children Angela, Willie, Anthony and Carl; her grandchildren, Jason, Danielle, Tiara, Joshua, Akira, Alexis, Maximus; her great-grandchildren Jamiyaand Liam, and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, co-workers and clients.
