Walter Stoudemire, age 78, of Autaugaville, AL, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at the Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center. He was born on February 24, 1947, in Autaugaville, AL, to the late Washington and Ruby Stoudemire.
Walter graduated from Autauga County Training School in June 1967. Later that year, in December, he joined the McCoy Job Corps, where he completed a welding program. Although employment opportunities were limited at the time, Walter’s determination led him to a position at Bush Hog in Selma, AL, in March 1968, where he worked as a welder fabricating parts for farm equipment.
In September 1968, Walter’s life took a significant turn when he was drafted into the United States Army. He served with distinction, receiving extensive training in chemical and biological warfare. In March 1969, upon completing his training, he was deployed to serve in the Vietnam War. After returning from Vietnam, he was stationed in Germany for six months prior to his honorable discharge in April 1971 as a Sergeant in the United States Army. Walter proudly served his country and was a dedicated veteran of the U.S. Army.
Following his military service, Walter began a new chapter of life in Ohio with Janette DeRamus, to whom he was married for 14 years. In 1991, he returned to Alabama and married Jeredean Tolver, who remained his devoted wife until his passing.
Walter loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, hunting, grilling, and spending time with family. Anyone who knew him knew he was always up for a competitive game of spades, dominoes, pool, or maybe even a road trip for a spin on the slots.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Washington and Ruby Stoudemire; his daughter, Sharon Tolver; his brothers, Frank Lamar, Edward Caver, and Anderson Stoudemire; and his sisters, Willie Mae Bates and Lola Simpson.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving and devoted wife of 34 years, Jeredean Stoudemire; his beloved children: Booker Tolver (Sheena), Tijuana Jenkins, Latrina Noel (Larry), Ronnie Howard, and Tiffany Stoudemire; his sister, Barbara Broadnax (Charlie); and his cherished grandchildren: Darius Powell (Kathleen), Jasmyne Garrett, Michaela Stoudemire, Mark Fitch Jr., Deven Tolver (Tiana), Maurice Tolver, Essence Dorsey (Niyah), and Aaliyah Tolver. He is also fondly remembered by numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Walter’s legacy of love, service, and strength will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
