Mr. Willie (Ray) Burns, Jr. was born on May 20, 1949 to the late Willie (Buster) Burns, Sr. and Sadie Mae Burns. He was the second of nine children born to this union.
He attended the Autauga County Training School. He joined Greater Mallard Chapel A.M.E. Church at an early age. After graduation he was drafted by the United States Army where he served from February 20, 1969 until February 11, 1971, when he was honorable discharged.
Willie was joined in Holy Matrimony to Regina Gardner on August 30th, 1972; to this union was added three children.
Willie worked in the construction field for forty -seven years, during which he almost worked in every state of the union, being employed by Fluor Daniel, Shaw Group, Beacon Construction, K&B, KBR, S&B and Daniel. He enjoyed spending time with his family, his neighbors, siblings and grandchildren.
On Monday, November 9th, 2020, Willie transition from this life on earth after a brief illness.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Sadie Mae Burns, Nephew Alexander Burns and Brother-in-law, Winfield Gardner.
He leaves to cherish his loving and devoted wife of forty-eight years Mrs. Regina Gardner, daughter of the late Louis and Annie Mae Pettaway Gardner. Two sons, James (Lelia) Gardner, Jerome (LaToya) both of Selma, AL. And daughter Remekia, Autaugaville, AL. Ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Four sisters, Veola (late Eddie) Davis, Audrey (Ron) Cook of Autaugaville, AL, Darlene Brown of Millbrook, AL, Fannie Burns (James) Washington, Montgomery, AL. Four brothers, Archie (Bettie) Fayetteville, GA, Frank (Evelyn) Autaugaville, AL, Charlie (Julia) Billingsley, AL, Leslie (Loretta)) Prattville, A:L. Three sisters-in-law, Geraldine (Willie) Dickerson, Autaugaville, AL, Karla G. Perkins, and Jennifer Quarles both of Selma, AL. Four brothers-in-law, Jeffery (Jessie) Gardner, Louis Gardner, Jr., Gary Gardner, all of Selma, AL. Michael (Wanda) of Bradenton, FL. A host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
